Stargazers

Class 2 have had a great first few weeks exploring their space topic. They began in Geography, by looking at pictures of the earth from space and learnt that these were taken by satellites orbiting the earth. In History, they have been introduced to Sir Isaac Newton and learnt why he is a significant figure in the world of science. The children have enjoyed learning a pneumonic to remember the order of the eight planets in our solar system from the sun.

In computing, the children have been using ‘Scratch’ to programme space animations, including the moon orbiting the earth and the earth orbiting the sun. In music, they have listened to Gustav Holst’s Mars and have been inspired to compose their own music about a chosen planet.

After learning about the moon’s phases in Science, Class 2 produced their own moon phase artwork using a printing technique.
